3D Model Pricing Calculator
A 3D model pricing calculator sets the price for selling a digital 3D model or STL file. It weighs the typical market band for your model type against the payout of the marketplace you sell on (CGTrader, Cults3D, MyMiniFactory, Thangs, Patreon or your own store) and the modelling hours you invested — returning a break-even price, a suggested price, and whether it repays your time at the sales you expect.

How it works
- 01
Pick the model type
Miniatures, print-ready gadgets, character sculpts, game-ready assets and arch-viz each carry a typical market price band so your first price is informed, not guessed.
- 02
Choose your marketplace
CGTrader, Cults3D, MyMiniFactory, Thangs, Patreon or your own store keep very different shares of each sale. The tool applies the creator payout and lets you override it.
- 03
Price against your time
Enter the hours you spent modelling and what your time is worth. The calculator shows the break-even price, whether your chosen price repays that time at the sales you expect, and a suggested figure.
Market price bands and platform payout shares are representative figures last checked in 2026 and they move with exclusivity agreements, volume tiers and promotions — always confirm your live payout percentage in your seller dashboard and enter it under the custom option.
Frequently asked questions
How much should I sell a 3D model for?
It scales with type and effort. Print-ready STL gadgets commonly sell $3–12, tabletop miniature packs $2–8 per file or more as bundles, character and hard-surface sculpts $10–60, and product-visualisation or architectural assets $30–200+. A robust floor is your modelling time divided by the sales you realistically expect, adjusted for the platform’s cut — which is exactly what this calculator computes.
How much do 3D model marketplaces take?
Creator payouts vary widely: CGTrader pays up to around 70–85% depending on exclusivity and volume, Cults3D about 70%, MyMiniFactory near 70%, subscription-pool platforms like Thangs split downloads from a pooled fund, and your own store keeps roughly 97% after payment processing. Exclusive listings trade a bigger per-sale share for losing the other marketplaces’ traffic.
Should I make my 3D model exclusive to one marketplace?
Exclusive raises your per-sale percentage (CGTrader jumps toward 85%) but you appear in only one shop. Non-exclusive floods every marketplace and usually wins on total volume for discoverable niches. Model it both ways here: swap the platform and share, and compare lifetime profit — the right answer depends entirely on your expected sales count.
How do I price a model to make a target income?
Use the reach-an-income mode. Enter the monthly income you want and the sales you can realistically expect; the calculator divides target ÷ (sales × your payout share) for the price that gets you there — or, at the market price, how many monthly sales the target demands. It makes the passive-income maths honest instead of hopeful.
Do 3D print files (STL) sell differently from visualisation models?
Yes. STL/print files sell to makers at low prices and high volume, often via subscription or bundle, because buyers print them personally. Visualisation and game assets sell to studios and agencies at higher prices and lower volume, with licensing (royalty-free vs rights-managed) mattering more than the file itself. Pick the matching type so the band reflects the right market.
What is a break-even price for a digital model?
A digital file has no reprint cost, so its only real cost is the time you spent making it. Break-even price = (modelling hours × your hourly value) ÷ (expected lifetime sales × platform payout share). Below that you paid yourself less than your chosen rate; above it every further sale is close to pure profit.
Is a lower price better than a higher one?
Only if it sells enough more copies to make up the margin. A $5 file needs 100 sales to earn what a $25 file earns from 20 — and both still cost the same modelling time. Test the trade-off in the results panel rather than defaulting to cheap; most underpriced creators were simply one tier up from fair.
